The necessary hardware and software is provided to allow organisations to have access to the environment they require, managed with an agreement and policy that outlines rights and responsibilities while hosting data in the co-location centre.

Co-location facilities offer high levels of security, with access to physical spaces only given to organisation representatives and data centre personnel. As data is stored on dedicated physical servers, and not shared across multiple devices, this can further ensure security. In terms of privacy, co-location offers organisations the chance to take control of their own data, rather than it being handled by an outside party. Additionally, managed co-location offers cost efficiency, with data centres equipped with a team of experienced personnel to monitor, maintain, and update all equipment as required.
